An ingenious device

I get hot flashes due to the effects of treatment for prostate cancer (androgen deprivation therapy). The hot flashes come once or twice an hour, and are extremely uncomfortable. My wife said that running cold water over the inside of her wrists helped with hot flashes when she was going through menopause. That helps me, too, but I'm not always near a water faucet. For several weeks, I carried around a small, insulated lunch bag with blue ice in it, wrapped in a wet washcloth. I took it with me everywhere so that, when a hot flash came on, I could pull out the cold cube and place it on the inside of my wrist. That worked, but it was inconvenient carrying that lunch bag around, especially when I was in public. When I learned about the Embr Wave 2, I ordered it right away. I Love It! it really works. It fits on the wrist like a wristwatch, and all I have to do is push a button (twice) and the flat side of the EW2 that touches the wrist turns cold, greatly diminishing the intensity, and decreasing the duration of the hot flash. It's an ingenious device.
Another downside of the androgen deprivation therapy is insomnia--the worst side effect of all. My doctor prescribed Effexor, an antidepressant and anti-anxiety medication. I was hesitant to go on another antidepressant (I had weaned myself from Prozac six months ago), but the lack of sleep was driving me crazy. With the Effexor, I'm now able to get 8 hours of sleep. Effexor also helps reduce hot flashes. They come less frequently now, but they still come, and I'm glad to have my Embr Wave 2 on my wrist for when they do.
The charge lasts about 3 full days (maybe more) before it has to be recharged.

Pros
- The magnetic wrist band enables me to fit the band perfectly to my wrist size.
Cons
- The magnetic wristband can be awkward to put on and take off at first, and it took a few days for me to figure out the right technique. But, that's very minor issue.

only just took the edge off

I gave it a very good try as I needed this to work. The first three times I clicked on it my hot flashes were curbed and that was the last time I got real proof it was working. I get several a day and my skin heats up so much that I needed something to really help. They said to give it a good week, I gave it two. They said to use the ap and I tried that as well. Didn't make a difference. I do believe that mine is defective so it is going back. I tested it out in my hand and it would only go cold for a second or two then stop eventually it even went warm, which made me feel worse. My hot flashes build in intensity so that doesn't help at all. It needs to be a constant cold or increasing cold to work for me. I'm not sure why it isn't designed to do that at all. They are missing a key function in order for this to be worth a very hefty price. The warming store was great to work with and sent me a label to return it. LOVE this store
