At first glance, you\xCDll quickly admire the design characteristics that make the Hornet X2 a true hybrid between a premium road and off-road helmet. The mouthpiece and chin bar area incorporate the best features from both worlds; its shape was designed to improve air intake and ventilation performance, all the while giving the rider the additional air space needed to accommodate heavy breathing during demanding off-road riding. Abandoning the traditional mouthpiece of an off-road helmet, the Hornet X2 provides the additional protection needed when weather conditions become adverse, and the multi-stage lower vent shutter allows the rider to fine-tune airflow for every riding conditions.
The Hornet X2\xCDs all-new V-460 visor spent countless development hours in SHOEI\xCDs wind tunnel and on the road to perfect the proper balance between aerodynamics and traditional visor functionality. The innovative \xF1wedge\xEE shape along with strategically placed vent louvers allow wind to pass through unobstructed during high-speed riding, ultimately reducing lift and drag. Along with superior aerodynamic qualities, the V-460\xCDs shape was strategically designed to push air into the Hornet X2\xCDs upper air intake for optimal cooling, all the while maintaining its fundamental purpose of providing sunshade and roost protection during off-road riding. Rounding out the V-460\xCDs innovative features, easy-to-operate quarter-turn screws allow for quick removal and installation of the visor without the need for special tools.
Along with the Hornet X2\xCDs large eye port, SHOEI\xCDs all-new CNS-2 shield offers unparalleled vision across the entire optical range. In addition to protecting against 99% of the sun\xCDs damaging UV rays, the CNS-2 shield offers a distortion-free view thanks to SHOEI\xCDs 3D injection-molding process. Additionally, an innovative rib on the top edge of the shield improves rigidity and eliminates bending that may occur during opening and closing.
QR-N Base Plate
Coupled with the all-new CNS-2 shield, the Hornet X2\xCDs QR-N base plate system facilitates quick and efficient shield changes for easy adaptation during your journey. The strengthened spring-loaded base plates pull the shield back against the improved window beading to ensure a dust, wind and waterproof seal with each and every closure. A new shield locking mechanism rounds out the Hornet X2\xCDs advanced shield system.
Pinlock\xAC EVO Fog-Resistant System
The Hornet X2 comes equipped with a Pinlock\xAC EVO Fog-Resistant System, offering the most effective anti-fog protection in existence. A simple, one-step installation process makes every Pinlock\xAC lens easy to install.
For you hardcore dual-sport enthusiasts who appreciate the advantages of traditional off-road goggles from time-to-time, the Hornet X2 is happy to abide. Removal of the shield is optional, as the new Hornet\xCDs roomy eye port accepts goggles when the shield is in the fully open position. If you prefer to run your goggles with the shield removed, the Hornet X2\xCDs quick-release base plate system will make it happen in a hurry!

THE INTERACTION BETWEEN COMFORT AND PROPER FIT
The material and shape of the comfort liner are critical factors for the overall wearing comfort and proper fit of the helmet. The wearing comfort covers the effect of the material properties on the skin of the rider. The fit defines how well the helmet sits on the head and stays in place, which is especially noticeable at high speeds. In the past, these two criteria often worked against one another. Very thick, soft padding provided good wearing comfort, but it did not hold well at high speeds, leading to helmet buffeting and instability.
OPTIMIZATION OF PADDING COVER MATERIALS
The development of new high-performance fabrics allows for greater sweat absorption and dissipation, yielding a proprietary sweat absorbing material that greatly improves rider comfort. These materials (first researched and developed in motocross and road racing where the amount of physical exertion and hence the production of sweat is extremely high) are now production features in several of SHOEI’s helmet models.

The heaviest part of a helmet is the helmet shell, which is of special importance when making a light helmet. Since the shell is also the part of the helmet that is the most stressed in the event of an impact, the requirements concerning the manufacturing of a light helmet shell are correspondingly high. Through its extensive experience in the processing of fiber compound materials, SHOEI has succeeded in developing the extremely resistant and lightweight AIM and AIM+ helmet shells.

1. Fiber-Reinforced Matrix: An outer shell that is made primarily of fiberglass (FRP) is given its shape by a heat-setting plastic resin.
